Net Billing & Virtual Net Billing

Net Billing allows solar energy users to sell the excess electricity generated by their solar panels back to the grid at a specific rate. Unlike net metering, where you earn energy credits, net billing compensates you with cash or bill credits at a set price for any surplus electricity your system produces. You are billed for the energy you use from the grid, and separately, you are compensated for the power you export.

Autonomous Secondary Power Source

When two energy sources are combined in a home, such as a photovoltaic system with a battery and the grid of the second source, an ATS (Automatic Transfer Switch) is used to automatically transfer between the energy sources, depending on the needs of the home and the situation of the sources.

System Operation:

Photovoltaic system with battery: The photovoltaic produces energy during the day, which is directly consumed by the residence. The offset of Hertz (frequency) is critical for switching the 2 energy sources to the residence via the ATS Automatic Transfer Switch. The process involves the use of specialized boards (or controllers) that manage the proper matching of frequencies and voltages between the two sources.

Synchronization: The inverter must synchronize the frequency of the generated AC current (typically at 50 Hz) with the frequency of the second source. This process is done through specialized algorithms and controls on the circuit board. When all these conditions are met and netting is achieved, the inverter allows the generated electricity to be safely transferred from one source to another. If energy production exceeds consumption, the excess energy is stored in batteries. During the hours when there is no sunshine, the energy is drawn from the batteries to meet the needs of the residence.

Second source: provides power when the PV system’s batteries run out or if the output from the PV is insufficient (eg during night hours or bad weather). – The ATS automatically transfers the power from the PV system to the second source when needed, without the need for manual intervention.

Energy flow with ATS:

Normal mode (photovoltaic/battery): ATS allows the use of energy produced by the photovoltaic system and batteries. The second source remains as a backup source.

Switch to the second source (insufficient PV power): When the power from the PV system and the batteries are exhausted, the ATS automatically switches to the second source ensuring continuous power.

This system ensures the uninterrupted operation of the residence, offering energy autonomy and backup in cases where the energy from the sun is not sufficient. Green energy helps reduce dependence on fossil fuels and helps create a more sustainable future.
